Presenting the importance of good credit

Slide2The credit crunch has hurt individuals and companies, with more filings for bankruptcy in 2009 than any other year. To help make matters out of this Jacqueline Nunn-Burkett has been through some tough times, and is now on the speaking circuit hoping to help people navigate the dangerous waters of the credit world carefully.

Jacqueline came to The Presentation Team in February 2010 to help enhance her 30 page PowerPoint that she was giving to a small group of business owners and students at a local college. She had a limited budget, so she settled on the "$599 Enhanced Presentation Package", a quick and easy approach to transform a basic PowerPoint into a get-noticed masterpiece.

The project started by clarifying the project's goals, and learning about Jackie's presentation style. Our design strategy focused on creating a look-and-feel that reflected Jackie's warmth and friendly nature, yet connected the important financial elements relevant to the audience. The 6 hour project involved...

  1. Development of a custom professional template (title and body masters), that reflects Jackie's professionalism and company brand, while integrating her existing content.
  2. Re-working the overall look-and-feel of the presentation (colors, fonts, layout) for a more polished look.
  3. Clean and professional imagery/graphics (portfolio, schematics, people, concept art, etc.).
  4. Clutter-reducing techniques and presentation strategies to create a "cleaner" look with greater effectiveness.
  5. Clean and conservative slide transition effects (fades and wipe effect).
  6. Professional fonts/typography to ensure consistent playback on different computer systems.
  7. Consulting and collaboration to help Jackie to further develop and present new ideas.

Original-Cover-Page Slide1
Before:
The original design featured a whitewashed left column vertical banner on the master page. Title and body text were bulleted text in Arial font...functional but ordinary
After:
The presentation redesign featured a clean 16x9 widescreen template with a blue banner at the top of the page for inverse white title text. The body master integrated a grey gradient blend within an oblong rectangular shape. Iconic imagery was used where appropriate to reinforce key text points.

Jackie's message of Financial Success involved connecting with her audience...and getting them motivated. To help express the concept of the importance of non-traditional thinking we integrated a non-traditional photo: two business people enthusiastically jumping! Guide lines helped us to keep the photo position consistent (so they didn't jump around from page-to-page). We applied a reflected rounded rectangle picture style in PowerPoint.

To improve visual impact and draw attention to the phrase "If you want to stay in the game, you can't do business as usual," we enlarged several keywords in the Calibri typeface to 48-points. Right margin justification helped separate it from the photo while providing a balance and overall integration.

The word TRILLION has fewer letters (8) than the actual number of digits (13). To help emphasize how big 2 Trillion really is, we wrote outthe number in 76-Point Calibri Font. This Credit Fact was set against afinancial background, muted blue in Photoshop and saved as a 1920x1200 JPG graphic.

Slide4 It's a universal color concept. Red is bad/stop. Green is good/go. When talking about the basics of FICO and how peoples' scores are evaluated, we took the two bullet points and recreated them in green and red. These two factswere set against abackground image from Digital Juice's Business Impact (from The Presenter's Toolkit). We brought this image into Photoshop, changing the blending mode to "saturation", and displaying the later at only 30%, so it integrated comfortably, but not too strikingly against the existing background.
Slide5 Pie charts are as easy as pie! To help communicate the key elements of a credit rating score, Jackie asked us to keep her information in a pie...but make it look better. So we simply converted the 3D pie chart into a cleaner 2D piec hart wtih beveled edges and automatically distributed color. This was set against the standard blue background template for a simple and straightforward visual aid.

Afterjust two days and three rounds of edits, the presentation was a done-deal. Jackie presented to her audience to applause and praise, and is still sharing how everyone can improve their credit through simple steps...and it's all a little easier to follow thanks to graphics from The Presentation Team!
