Reduce clutter: Eliminate the template

1) Here’s a slide from Allstate Agent and professional speaker Laura Wilson which uses a basic template from PowerPoint. The list of goals presented on this slide are crammed together without any delineation, and there is no focal point. 2) Rather than find or create a new template, we worked in Photoshop to create a full screen graphic at 1024 by 768 resolution which conveys the slide’s message. The dartboard effectively conveys the concept of “Goals” while providing ample space for text. The text has been spaced evenly with key words capitalized for emphasis. The only consistent element in this approach are the fonts, and the translucent angled bar at the top area for titles. 3) This slide makeover again eliminates the template using a handshake graphic from Digital Vision to convey the slide’s concept. The text has been split into two different-sized blocks…the size of the text more effectively communicating the message.
