The table for Carvel Ice Cream compares data over three years. With such a small amount of data, images can be more easily and effectively used.

The new makeover slide includes a more updated template of course. A subtitle summarizes the key message of the slide, and the table data has been reworked into three graphical icons. The graphics were created from a scanned franchise agreement cover and saved as a PNG file (for transparency). Each year's information is introduced individually with a spiral animation on a mouse-click.

This example features a 3D pie chart from Hills Pet Nutrition talking about renal failure in cats. Not a pretty topic…and not a pretty slide.

Our makeover has converted that 3D chart into a flat two-dimensional image, copied into Photoshop and applied onto an image of a cat. The background again, is from Digital Juice’s presenter’s toolkit, edited in photoshop to change the saturation to a full muted blue color. One drawback to this version is that the image is one static graphic and can’t be animated piece by piece. But clearly, it conveys the topic and statistics more emotionally and effectively.

Our next example is from The Studer Group, a medical consulting company. Their original slide features a simple line chart…. weak and ordinary. And the "Excellent Ranking" line in red carries a negative connotation.

Our makeover begins with a flat background reflecting the brand and colors of the company. A medical-themed illustration behind the chart adds life to the data while supporting the presentation’s medical content. The fonts and colors are bulked up for improved visibility, and the "Excellent Ranking" line color has been changed to green. We didn’t really alter the chart…just changed the colors and boldness to make it easier to see, now set against a medical image.
